Ann Scott Tyson

Seattle, WA Chapter Head

Ann is an award-winning journalist and author whose career includes a decade covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In the combat zones, Ann witnessed firsthand the courage and sacrifice of Iraqi and Afghan interpreters, filming them in firefights, writing about their lives, and working alongside them to conduct interviews. Ann and her husband, Special Forces veteran Jim Gant, have helped four of his five interpreters from Iraq and Afghanistan resettle in the United States. Inspired to assist more, Ann started the No One Left Behind chapter in her hometown of Seattle, which has a growing population of these wartime allies.

Ann has written for The Christian Science Monitor and The Washington Post, and contributed to The Wall Street Journal. She is the author of two nonfiction books, including the best-selling Afghanistan war memoir American Spartan: The Promise, The Mission, and The Betrayal of Special Forces Major Jim Gant. Ann graduated from Harvard University with an honors degree in Government and East Asian Studies, and earned an honors certificate from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris. She also studied economics and business at Columbia University, and speaks Chinese and French.
