Janis Shenwari served as a translator alongside the Army and Marines for over 8 years. During that time, he personally saved 5 soldiers’ lives. Upon finally receiving his Special Immigrant Visa, Janis was greeted with a $35,000 check from a GoFundMe campaign to support his new life in the United States.
Janis refused the money. Instead he asked that it go to create No One Left Behind to help all interpreters who are still waiting for their Special Immigrant Visa. Janis has met with members of Congress to advocate for the Special Immigrant Visa. He continues to volunteer each weekend to bring donated household goods to newly arrived SIV families.
