On Thursday, May 16, No One Left Behind volunteers joined U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Jack Reed (D-RI), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Cory Gardner(R-CO) and Tim Kaine (D-VA), to introduce bipartisan legislation that would provide additional visas for Afghans who have assisted the U.S. mission in Afghanistan and whose lives are in jeopardy because of their service.
The Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2019 would provide 4,000 Afghan Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) for the remainder of fiscal year 2019 and begin to address administrative obstacles that prevent Afghan and Iraqi allies from receiving visas through SIV programs. View the full press conference here.
In a letter to Senator Jeanne Shaheen, U.S. Army General Austin Miller states his appreciation for the introduced legislation that will continue to support the Afghan SIV program. “If the program is not fully resourced, our credibility and the sacrifices made by thousands of Afghans in support of Americans and our Coalition partners could be undermined,” wrote Miller.
Janis Shinwari, No One Left Behind Co-Founder, spoke on behalf of brave Afghans who have assisted the U.S. mission in Afghanistan and whose lives are in jeopardy because of their service. Find his remarks here.
